Puzzling Disappearances
Members of the Fire-Sky tribe have gone missing, but no one seems to notice except a young woman who turns up dead in an apparent suicide. Pueblo Police Sergeant Nicky Matthews is assigned to the case and pushed to close it quickly by superiors. But as she gathers evidence, nothing adds up. She soon realizes this suicide is linked to the cold case disappearance of two other tribe members years earlier, and that the FBI has placed undercover agents on the Pueblo.
Targeted Victims
As Nicky delves deeper into the investigation, the suicide becomes a murder and she finds a chilling threat that strikes at the very heart of what it means to be a member of the Fire-Sky tribe: those who have gone missing were chosen because of their unique genetic makeup. In a vengeful twist, the killer ensures the spirits of those taken will wander forever, lost to their People.
Unexpected Allies
With a hostile captain, interference by a politically powerful ex-lover, and a burgeoning relationship with one of the undercover agents, Nicky doesn’t know who she can trust. When she turns to her friends on the reservation, she unknowingly places them in harm’s way. And when those closest to Nicky are put in jeopardy, she must be willing to sacrifice everything to save the people she is sworn to protect. Or will she be the next victim?
