I’m going to copy paste the write-up up from the wonderful Charlotte Zimmerman who coordinates the Mesilla Valley Readers of Southern New Mexico Book Club BUT this is actually an international book club with members from all over the world because they use Zoom for their presentations, as well as in-person.
Just a quick FYI: Charlotte (a retired librarian) and Las Cruces have been so supportive of my writing career. I’ve been invited to this book club to present all three of the Nicky Matthews mysteries, as well as to discuss topics that have an effect on authors and publishing. If you are looking for a Book Club home, please check this group out, no matter where you live. Email at email@example.com.
Carol Potenza, Tony Hillerman award-winning New Mexico author will speak about the third book in the Police Sergeant Nicky Matthews series. Spirit Daughters, set in New Mexico on a fictional pueblo, was published in September of 2022.
Carol will speak in person and simultaneously Zoom on Thursday, December 8th from 4-5 PM MT. You can meet her at the Las Cruces Chamber of Commerce building at 150 E Lohman Avenue. (The lovely historic building is not marked.) Doors will open at 3:30 PM. Carol will sell and sign books before and after the presentation.
Spirit Daughters Synopsis
A treasure beyond value. Her mother’s life on the line.
When a murder victim falls out of a closet at Police Sergeant Nicky Matthews’ feet, her investigation leads her to a powerful tribal fertility medicine.
What Nicky keeps secret is that this medicine was once at the center of her father’s scientific research. He’d isolated the single most-important compound in a fertility treatment worth a fortune … and worth killing for. But when her father vanished, the identity and location of the plant that produced this compound was lost.
Or was it?
Nicky’s archeologist mother may hold the key to the plant’s rediscovery which makes her the target of the desperate killers. Nicky insists her mother stay away from the Fire-Sky Pueblo. Instead, she barges back into her daughter’s life, determined to help Nicky solve the murder. But her mother’s return is the opening the killers needed.
No way Nicky is ever going to let anyone hurt her mom, even if it means tracking the murderers into the New Mexico high country in the depths of winter.
If Nicky catches up to the killers, she’ll have a choice. Bring them to justice, or just make them disappear.
Contact Mesilla Valley Readers of Southern New Mexico firstname.lastname@example.org for the Zoom invitation.
The discussion is free and open to the public. The Chamber of Commerce is an accessible building.
